Counselor's Chat
Alyssa Donnelly
I am so blessed to be a part of the TIS family again. My goal this year is to connect with each and every one of your children. Whether it's in a small group, or on a one-to-one basis. I am making a conscientious effort to reach every single student. Therefore, do not be alarmed if your child comes home and says, "Hey mom, I talked to the counselor today!"
I want the kids to know that I am a safe adult who they can talk to about anything. They are never in trouble when they come to me. I want to challenge the bias: "The only kids who talk to the counselor, have problems." My office is a welcoming place -- no judgement here -- all are welcome (parents included!) I believe if the kids and I have a conversation about life, in general, then they are more apt to seek me out when they are struggling with something more difficult.
For me to be a true safe haven for the kids, it is imperative that I treat our conversations as confidential. Sometimes this feels like I am walking on a tight rope. I know, however, that for the students to trust me and the wisdom I hope to breathe into them, they must know that their information is safe. However, I have an ethical duty to break confidentiality if I have concerns for their personal safety, for the safety of others, or if court ordered. Please know that if I do become concerned, I will contact you immediately
Thank you so much for your support. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to e-mail or call me at Ext 380.
