Ron Floyd

I consider it a great privilege to serve as Counselor/Learning Specialist in this outstanding educational community. One of my major goals is to help students, parents, and teachers discover and apply strategies that contribute to the academic success of our young scholars! TIS students are truly challenged academically, and so they all face the task of managing well their time and energy. I work with students to help them cope with anything that might present difficulty on the road to success in school. Whether it’s a history of procrastination, a diagnosis of a learning disability, or a chronic lack of sleep that poses the challenge, I attempt to identify and encourage healthy ways of dealing with the challenge.

In the role of Learning Specialist, I hope to be an effective advocate for students with learning differences and disabilities through communication with teachers, parents, and agencies. I also want to be a resource for students who might be excelling academically, but who are overwhelmed, anxious, or “stressed out” about something.

As Counselor, I meet with students who seek guidance regarding emotional or social issues that affect school performance, or, who would benefit from simply a confidential listener, a sympathetic ear.

Students can be referred to me by parents, teachers, or concerned friends, and, they can refer themselves, of course.

My office is Room 205 in the Upper School. Although most of my time is focused on Upper and Middle School students, I do consult frequently with the Head of the Lower School to determine ways I can also be helpful there.

I am thankful for the opportunity to be a supportive presence for the students of TIS. You may contact me by email at Ron.Floyd@TheIndependentSchool.com or call me at school, 686-0152, ext. 404.
