College Counseling

Finding the best college or university to match each individual student’s needs and interests is the ambition of the college counseling office.

School History

The Independent School (TIS) is an independent co-educational pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade college preparatory program, founded in 1980 by Mrs. Jean Garvey to provide high curricular expectations and to encourage well rounded, creative individuals.

Our mission is to provide a superior independent college preparatory education for a diverse student population in a safe and supportive community conducive to the intellectual, emotional, and physical growth of each independent student.

The Independent School currently enrolls approximately 550 students that come from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, economic, and religious backgrounds. TIS currently enrolls 205 students in the Upper School with 44 seniors in the Class of 2012.

City

Wichita is located along the Arkansas River in south central Kansas, two and a half hours north of Oklahoma City and two hours southwest of Topeka. With a population around 360,000, Wichita is the 51st largest city in the country and Kansas’ most populous city. Five major aircraft manufacturers, including Boeing, Bombardier, and Cessna call Wichita ‘home’ making it the “Air Capital of the World.”

Admission, Tuition, and Financial Aid

Students are admitted to TIS by application. Tuition is $9,900 for grades 9 – 12.  22% of students receive financial aid..
