Recycling Club

Welcome to the Recycle Club! We are an entirely student-run initiative based in the Upper School that manages all TIS' recycling needs. If you have questions about what we do and how to join our endeavors please contact our faculty sponsor at: Abby.Koch@TheIndependentSchool.com.

Recycle Club News

By Wynn Hukle (RC Secretary, Class of 2013)

The Upper School Recycle Club has been working incredibly hard these last few months to reduce the school's carbon footprint. It recently just ended its LIGHTS OUT! campaign, where Recycle Club members encouraged teachers to turn off the lights in the hallways and in their classrooms. This created a lot of excitement among the students and raised awareness on how we can all make a big difference with a small effort by turning off all the lights and computers at night to reduce our energy use.

Also, the Recycle Club was inducted into the Green Schools Alliance this year. Wichita Independent is officially the first school to be accepted by this organization in the state of Kansas, and the second school for the entire Midwest. This is an incredible achievement for our school and it could not have been done without the help of the students, faculty, and parents for your continuous support. All inquiries regarding the club can be directed towards Ms. Koch or Emily Vayda.

Recycle club is collecting more and more recyclable material each week. The club has expanded tremendously in size over the past year. The middle school is following in the high school recycle club's footsteps and has started making plans for their own green initiative. Check us out on our Facebook page or even at the Green Schools Alliance Webpage (http://greenschoolsalliance.org) where we are joined with other schools around the world to make a difference. On behalf of the Recycle Club, I want to thank everyone who has supported and worked with us these past two years. You're making an impact!
