Cross Country


T

he Independent Panther Cross Country Team is open to 7th-12th grade.  The Upper School team spends a week in the summer at High Altitude Camp in Angel Fire, New Mexico, which assists their competitive edge in their respective divisions.  

 

In 2009, the Upper School Boys were 1st in the CPL Championship meet.


Coaching Staff:

Steve Riley - Head Cross Country Coach-2010 3A Boys State Cross Country Coach of the Year!
Coach Steve Riley is starting his fifth year as the Upper School's Cross Country coach for boys and girls. During this time his teams have won four CPL Championships, placed third at Regionals once and have won two Regional titles. At the State Championships his teams have placed third and were the 2010 Class 3A State Champions. He has coached four runners who have placed in the top twenty at state. Before coaching at Independent he was the assistant coach at Taos High School in New Mexico.

Trevor Darmstetter - The Middle School Cross Country Coach is in his third year of coaching at Independent. In high school, Trevor was part of the 2008-2009 state cross country team, and was also a state qualifier in the two mile during track and held the school record for the two mile during his senior year at Independent.

Since high school, Trevor has run numerous local road races and marathons. He now helps coach high school and middle school cross country at Independent, and has helped such teams as the 2009-2010 state 3rd place team, and the 2010-2011 state champion team that also went undefeated against Kansas schools.

Fall 2011 Highlights:

Retional and CPL Boys' Champions!  TIS placed 6 runners in the top 7 spots!!
Fall 2010 Highlights:

Upper School: 2010 CPL, REGIONAL, AND BOYS' STATE CHAMPIONS!!

The Panthers finished their season winning 8 of their 9 meets including the CPL League meet, Regionals and State with the only loss coming at Rim Rock where the Panthers finished 3rd overall and were the top placing Kansas Team in the Blue division.
