Vocal Music

Our Music Program begins in Junior Kindergarten and is conducted 2-3 times a week in Lower School. Students are taught music theory, and are exposed to both vocal and instrumental music. Instrumental music instruction includes rhythm instruments, the keyboard and the recorder.  Ms. Courtney Long teaches JK/ K, Mr. Matt Hanne teaches 1st- 3rd grades, and Mr. Ben Rivers teaches the 4th and 5th grade students.

In the Middle School, under the direction of Mr. Ben Rivers, students have vocal twice per week. One major musical performance per grade is performed each year, with additional singing occasions at Honors Assemblies and TIS special Fine Arts events.

Drama/Improve is an elective with Mr. Rivers as an Explore class.

In addition to concerts and performances in community venues, students also vocally compete in both solo and choir formats in Kansas Music Educators Association and Central Plains Middle School League competitions.

Mr. Matt Hanne is the director of the Upper School vocal music program. Upper school students have many solo opportunities and may participate in Mixed Choir, Musicals, and Small Ensembles. Competitions are available to students in Middle and Upper School.
