TIS - A Community Where Students Are Truly Known

Early Learning Center

The ELC is where a child’s relationship with school begins. It is a place designed to feel warm, safe, and joyful, where curiosity is encouraged and confidence begins to grow.

Learning in the ELC is play-based and developmentally appropriate, with a strong focus on social-emotional growth, exploration, and hands-on discovery. Children learn how to be part of a classroom, how to express themselves, and how to engage with the world around them.

Teachers know each child well, including their interests, rhythms, and needs, and partner closely with families to support every stage of early development. This foundation helps children feel secure, capable, and excited about learning as they move forward.

Lower School

The Lower School (JK- 4th Grade) is a time when children build strong academic foundations while growing in confidence, independence, and curiosity.

Students develop literacy, math, and critical thinking skills through engaging, purposeful learning that encourages questions, creativity, and problem-solving. Teachers intentionally build relationships with students, helping them feel known, supported, and empowered to take ownership of their learning.

As children grow, they develop persistence, collaboration, and pride in steady progress. Lower School at TIS nurtures both academic growth and the confidence that allows students to believe in themselves.

Middle School

Middle School (5th - 8th grade) at TIS is a carefully designed four-year experience that supports students as they develop organization, independence, and autonomy.

Students are deeply engaged in learning that challenges them academically while supporting their social and personal growth. Hands-on projects and research-based work build curiosity and critical thinking, while advising relationships help students gain confidence, navigate friendships, and grow into themselves.

Service opportunities, activities, and athletics strengthen community and teamwork. Students are challenged with care and supported with steadiness while being known for who they are.

The Upper School builds on years of being known, supported, and encouraged. Students continue to develop independence, voice, and purpose while engaging in strong academics that prepare them for college and life beyond high school.

Teachers and advisors guide students personally as expectations increase and choices become more meaningful. Learning remains thoughtful and challenging, grounded in relationships that support growth and confidence.

Individualized college counseling is a key part of the Upper School experience. Students receive personalized guidance as they explore options, prepare applications, and make decisions about what comes next, helping them find the right fit for who they are and who they are becoming. Graduates leave TIS prepared academically, confident in their abilities, and proud of the path they have taken.

Join us any Wednesday from 8:30–9:30 AM for a casual, drop-in visit where you can explore our campus, meet members of our team, and learn more about what makes TIS such a special place for students to grow and thrive. Please note: the ELC does not start tours until 9am.

Dear Families,

Welcome to The Independent School.

As a parent, I know how personal the school decision feels. When my family first began looking for the right educational environment in Wichita, we wanted more than strong academics. We wanted a place where our children would be known, challenged, encouraged, and supported as whole people.

We found that at TIS.

From our first visit, we felt the warmth of this community. We saw teachers who truly knew their students, classrooms filled with curiosity and conversation, and a school culture where students are encouraged to participate, lead, ask questions, try new things, and grow in confidence.

That balance is what makes TIS distinct. Students are challenged academically, but they are not anonymous. They are known by name, supported by caring teachers, and encouraged to become more fully themselves.

As both a TIS parent and incoming Head of School, I believe deeply in what happens here every day. I have watched my own children grow not only in knowledge, but in courage, character, creativity, and belonging. Admissions Process

Admissions Process

We know that choosing a school is more than a decision. It is a journey. That is why our admissions process is designed to be personal, transparent, and supportive from the very first step.

Five Simple Steps to Join the TIS Community

1. Inquire
Complete our Inquiry Form to connect with our Admissions Team and learn more about what makes TIS unique.

2. Visit
Schedule a campus tour or attend an Open House to explore our classrooms, meet our team, and experience the TIS community firsthand.

3. Apply
Submit the Online Application so we can begin getting to know your child and your family.

4. Shadow and Assess
For students entering Junior Kindergarten and above, students participate in a Shadow Day along with a developmentally appropriate assessment. Families will also take part in a conversation with our Admissions Team to ensure a strong fit academically, socially, and personally.

5. Enroll
Following admission, families complete the enrollment process and officially become part of the Panther community.
