Inspiring Potential. Empowering the Future.

At The Independent School, we don’t just prepare students for what’s next, we help them discover who they are and what they’re capable of.

Through personalized learning, a supportive community, and rich opportunities to lead and explore, students grow into confident learners, compassionate leaders, and thoughtful citizens of the world.

Your Child is Known at TIS

Every morning, there’s a moment of trust. You’re trusting that someone will really know your child. How they think, what drives them, and what they need to grow. At The Independent School in Wichita, relationships come first. Students are known, supported, and challenged in ways that help them grow with confidence from early childhood through high school. This message from incoming Head of School Jessica Stong reflects what families experience every day at TIS.

TIS - A Community Where Students Are Truly Known

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions a family can make.

At The Independent School (TIS), we believe that every child deserves an education that not only challenges them academically but also nurtures their unique strengths, passions, and character.

For over 45 years, TIS has provided a personalized, innovative, and student-centered education in a warm and supportive community. Here, students are more than just classmates—they are collaborators, leaders, and lifelong learners. With small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and a vibrant campus life, we help students develop the confidence, curiosity, and skills they need to thrive—both in school and beyond.

Whether your child is just beginning their academic journey or preparing for the rigors of high school, or anywhere in between, we invite you to discover what makes TIS unique.

Let’s start the journey together. We’re here to guide you every step of the way.

A Letter from Jessica Stong, Incoming Head of School.

Dear Families,

Welcome to The Independent School.

As a parent, I know how personal the school decision feels. When my family first began looking for the right educational environment in Wichita, we wanted more than strong academics. We wanted a place where our children would be known, challenged, encouraged, and supported as whole people.

We found that at TIS.

From our first visit, we felt the warmth of this community. We saw teachers who truly knew their students, classrooms filled with curiosity and conversation, and a school culture where students are encouraged to participate, lead, ask questions, try new things, and grow in confidence.

That balance is what makes TIS distinct. Students are challenged academically, but they are not anonymous. They are known by name, supported by caring teachers, and encouraged to become more fully themselves.

As both a TIS parent and incoming Head of School, I believe deeply in what happens here every day. I have watched my own children grow not only in knowledge, but in courage, character, creativity, and belonging. I have also had the privilege of seeing countless students discover their voice, build lasting friendships, and prepare for what comes next.

If you are searching for a school where your child will be seen, supported, and challenged to grow, I invite you to visit us. The best way to understand TIS is to experience it in person.

We would love to welcome you to campus.

Warmly,
Jessica Stong
Incoming Head of School
