With the school year freshly underway, I am quickly reminded that the four years of high school are easily some of the most influential years of our life. It is the culture and family friendly environment provided by the faculty and staff that has made a long-lasting impact in our journey through life. As Alumni, we can look back and confidently say that the school did everything in its power to properly set us up for success in college. The faculty of The Independent School have always welcomed us back with open arms and a smiling face. They have always supported us to the best of their abilities; it is now our turn to support them.
It is with great honor to announce that we have formed the new TIS Alumni Association. As Alumni, our commitment to the school does not stop after graduation, it has just begun. The Alumni Association is committed to the development and growth of the current student body as well as the faculty. Your support to our association will help ensure and preserve the success of TIS for years to come. Our school has lacked an open line of communication with our Alumni post-graduation. Today I can confidently say, that will change.
Donations can come in many forms to our association. Yes, we want to generate money to help the school. Most importantly, we want you to participate with your time. We want to create an environment where the Alumni participate in talks with the current student body, Alumni vs Varsity games and mentoring, just to name a few. Below you will find information on donation packages with the association. At the Garvey membership level, you will see that a one-on-one lunch with a faculty member of your choice is provided. This is a perfect way for you to reconnect with a favorite teacher or meet with the headmaster to give feedback. We want to hear from you, and we want you to feel a part of the current TIS family.
I would like to thank Sarah Wine for starting this group! She has been a fantastic addition to the faculty at Independent. A special thanks goes out to our Alumni Board members, Vice President Andrew Maness ‘06, David Fleming ‘08 and David Hahn ‘09. Without them this dream would not be a possibility.
Sincerely,
Alexander Learned
Alumni Association President
