Brent Lewis Donor Development Director
MEET OUR DONOR DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Brent was born and raised here in Wichita, graduating from South High School in 1995. He received a bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Wichita State University and served as an infantry squad leader in the US Army Commander-In-Chief’s Guard after 9/11. After completing his Army service, Brent returned to Kansas and earned a master’s degree in Personal Financial Planning from Kansas State University.
Over the next 17 years, he taught financial literacy, investing and Spanish classes while also coaching boys’ soccer and track, first at Heights High School and then at North High. Brent also founded and operated his own small financial planning firm during this time. Then, after the turbulence of the first year of the COVID pandemic in Wichita schools, Brent was elected President of the United Teachers of Wichita with the aim of being a stabilizing force during that difficult time.
After the pandemic had subsided and Brent learned he and his wife, Sarah Lopez-Lewis, were expecting twins, he stepped down from his role with United Teachers of Wichita. While eager to join Mr. Davis and his excellent team at The Independent School, he finished the remainder of his annual teaching contract and made the move to TIS during the summer. Brent and Sarah have 7 children/stepchildren after the birth of those twin girls and live in Haysville, Kansas.
